AC Maintenance and Service (Auto Safety Blog)

Is your Air Conditioning system not blowing cold? There are many reasons why your AC system may be blowing warm air. Just adding freon to your AC system may not be the answer to your Air Conditioning woes.

Many auto facilities will add freon at customer's request, but your AC system will only blow cold air for a short time if there is a leak. Avoid this by requesting a full AC system inspection. Most AC inspections will cover checking components like the the compressor, condenser, the evaporator, dryer, expansion valve, orifice tube, and the freon specifications for your vehicle.

If the freon levels are not to specifications a AC dye will need to be added along with the required amount of freon, and check the system for leaks. If no leaks are present, the service advisor will schedule a recheck usually in a week or so. Most of todays cars '95 and newer are equipped with R-134a. If your vehicle still has a R-12 system it will need to be retro-fitted to todays more environmentally friendly R-134a freon. Call your local Tuffy for an appointment to get your AC system ready for this Summer before the heat gets unbearable.
